In the Fashion Industry alone:

  • 80 billion pieces of clothing are consumed every year.

  • Nearly 100% of clothing and textiles CAN be recycled, but approximately only 15% are recycled according to the EPA (2015).

  • Clothing and textiles make up approximately 7.6% of all landfill waste (according to the EPA)

  • 2.4% of world's farmland dedicated to growing cotton but the crop uses 6% of the world’s pesticides (and 16% of insecticides), more than any other single major crop, according to Pesticides Action Network.

  • Pesticides are a major global killer. Nearly 1,000 people die every day from acute pesticide poisoning (according to PAN).

  • The fashion industry is the world's 2nd largest pollutive industry after oil.

  • More than a half trillion gallons of fresh water are used to dye textiles each year, leading to the industry being the root cause of 20% of global water pollution, according to the World Bank.
